Festive excuses for scrooges
To round-off Einstein Year, physicists at the Institute of Physics have calculated the energy consumed – and the CO2 emissions created – by the most familiar (and to some, the least welcome) festive activities in the week leading up to Christmas.
The series of scrooge excuses includes ingenious ways to avoid visiting the in-laws (just explain that 281,000 tonnes of CO2 will be released if every family in the UK were to make a 100 mile round trip), or to avoid answering the door to carol singers (if every household were to open their doors the heat lost from their houses would create 338 tonnes of CO2) and you'll be surprised to find out how many hot air balloons can be filled with CO2just by cooking the perfect turkey. You can read all our festive excuses in detail with our press release.
